OSB Summer Stipend Program – Diversity & Inclusion Employer Matching Grant
In 2021, with a growing budget surplus due to pandemic-related limitations on hosting Section events and activities, the ENR Section voted to include in its 2022 budget $3,000 to fund an employer matching grant through the OSB Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Department. The ENR Section-funded employer matching grant is designated for an Oregon law student working in a summer position focused in environmental or natural resources law and will be matched by the qualifying employer. All students enrolled in Oregon law schools are eligible for the grant and the D&I Department administers the grant to ensure compliance with Keller and Fisher limitations and selects grant recipients. Below is a list of the ENR Section’s Stipend recipients:
- Jen Hernandez (2023), a law student at Lewis and Clark Law School who spent the summer working for GEI Consultants.
- Jenna Ayers (2022), a law student at Willamette Law School who spent the summer working with Western Environmental Law Center.
Supporting an employer matching grant through the D&I Department furthers OSB and the Section’s mission of improving the quality of legal services and increasing access to justice in the field of environmental and natural resources law. The ENR Section approved funding the grant again as part of its 2024 budget at its November 2023 meeting.
If you are an employer and have any interest in being connected with student stipend recipients, OSB maintains an employer catalog where your practice will be listed. The catalog is a tool OSB provides to recipients looking for a position that satisfies the stipend criteria so they may contact you directly. Having your practice listed does not require any commitment, however for a summer position to satisfy the stipend criteria OSB asks for a commitment of at least 320 hours for the summer, which comes out to 32 hours/week for 10 weeks minimum.
